What comes to our mind when we think about the term “oak” it an organic mix of botanical and evocative fascination. Oak as a specific tree, with a peculiar shape and size; oak as an ecosystem of thousands of small plants and animals growing and living on it; oak as a strong symbolic being linked to strength and supernatural powers. The Blekinge region of Sweden collects a small number of centenary oak trees, the few survivors of a larger forest disappeared in the past centuries due to a planned deforestation. Nowadays they’re kept under protection and respected by the inhabitants of the region.
Photographs and design by Francesco Paleari.

Altana was born in 2018 in Venice after the encounter between Francesco Paleari, Elia Pinna and Francesco Villa. It’s meant to be a place for conversations and exchange around photography, genuinely dedicated to authorial research and care for editorial projects. Altana refuses to be labeled but rather prefers the dynamism of an evolving hybrid studio.
Altana is not a publisher, it is not a physical place and either a concept. Altana is a flying carpet made of wood from which you can enjoy a new perspective through photography.
